Error codeE3
ApplianceRefrigerator
Quick answer
E3 reads two ways: thermistor 3 open on current models, an open door or drawer on older Echelon and Origins units.
Model compatibility: U-Line reuses codes across series and model years, so E3 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
E3 means thermistor 3 open on current U-Line models, and a door or drawer open longer than 20 minutes on legacy Echelon and Origins units.
E3 does not mean the same thing on every U-Line refrigerator, wine cabinet or beverage center. Which meaning applies depends on the control generation, so find your series below first.
Current series: thermistor 3 open
On the UHRE515/524, UHWC524, UHBD524, UHRI124 and UHRF124 units, E3 stands for thermistor 3 open. The manual lists it in the error log, a record of faults in the order they occurred. Every error is stored in memory, but only a door error is shown on the display with an audible signal, so an E3 of this kind is found by viewing the log.
The same code list appears in the nugget and outdoor clear ice machine manuals, and the clear ice manuals state that E3 does not apply to them.
Older Echelon and Origins models: door or drawer open
On these legacy units E3 means the main door or the bottom drawer has been open for longer than 20 minutes. The unit beeps every minute until it is dealt with. The manual’s remedy is to close the door to reset it. If the light and display stay on afterwards, check the position of the magnet. E3 is not available on the CLR2160.
Codes easily confused with E3
E2 is thermistor 2 open, the entry just before it in the log.
E7 is thermistor 3 shorted, the same sensor with the opposite fault.
E10 is the top drawer open longer than 20 minutes, a door-style alarm like the legacy E3.
